A Sligo Councillor is calling for all bicycles sold in Sligo to be registered on a central database, to help prevent theft, and to reunite owners with bikes that have been recovered.
Ballymote-Tubbercurry FG Councillor Dara Mulvey says such a bike database register is very useful for police forces in the UK, and he's calling on Sligo County Council to work with Gardai and the Department of Transport in introducing a similar system here.
He believes a comprehensive register might be a deterrent to would-be thieves.
