Iarnrod Eireann is apologising to customers experiencing long delays on trains in and out of Mayo today.
There was a machine working at the Ballyhaunis track that experienced a mechanical problem and it is now preventing the train from entering the station from either side.
The 9.12am Athlone to Westport train was held up as a result, as is the 9.45am Westport to Dublin train.
A spokesperson for Iarnrod Eirean told Midwest News this lunchtime that the matter is being addressed and passengers should be on their way shortly.
However, some delays into Mayo for the rest of the afternoon can be expected.
