
A freight train travelling between Ballina and North Wall in Dublin hit a van at a level crossing about a mile outside Claremorris, on the Castlebar side, this morning.
The emergency services, the gardai and the fire brigade attended the scene.
The incident occurred at a location called Cartown crossing.
The driver of the van sustained injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
He was taken from the scene to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar.
A spokesperson for Iarnrod Eireann said the line reopened early this afternoon.
Due to the incident, Iarnrod Eireann is advising customers that train services on the line are resuming. Some delays can be expected as passengers may have to transfer at Athlone station throughout this afternoon and evening.
The incident is being investigated by the Health and Safety team of Mayo County Council and Irish Rail.
