The funeral takes place this afternoon of retired Bishop of Elphin, Christy Jones.
His funeral Mass gets underway at 1.30 in Sligo Cathedral, with burial afterwards in the Cathedral Grounds.
Bishop Jones’ remains were brought to the Cathedral last night for prayers, following two days of public repose, where hundreds of people paid their final respects at St Mary’s Presbytery in Sligo.
Bishop Jones, who served as Bishop of Elphin for 20 years until 2014, is survived by his sister, Sr Eileen, sister in law Pauline, nieces and nephews.
