Roscommon Fine Gael senator Maura Hopkins says that St. Joseph’s Mental Health Day Centre in Ballaghaderreen is likely to close next Friday 27th April.
She told Midwest News this morning that she has received no clarification or evidence in relation to replacement services, no practical evidence of how services will be improved locally, and no evidence of how and where staff will be allocated to support people with mental health difficulties in Ballaghaderreen and surrounding areas.
The Senator spoke with Tony Canavan, Chief Health Officer with the HSE on Friday last about the concerns and will again be speaking with him later today on the matter.
Tony Canavan has confirmed that the facility is under review but says no decision has been made as yet.
About 15 people a day attend the service at present in St Joseph's
Mr Canavan, the Senator says, stated in writing at a meeting held on 28th October 2016 that there would be engagement with public representatives if there were to be any changes to day centres.
Speaking to Midwest News today she says they have not been officially informed of the proposed closure, but she fears it is imminent.
