Mayo County Council should go ahead with plans to develop the old Convent site in Westport, or sell it off.
That’s according to Westport Independent Councillor Christy Hyland.
The Convent of Mercy site in Westport town was bought by the council ten years ago, but the building has fallen into disrepair and is now a venue for anti-social behavior.
Councillor Hyland claims young people are entering the building at night, and he fears a serious accident could occur.
The Independent Councillor is also concerned that one million euro in funding, which was provided by Minister Ring to develop a new library at the old Convent site, will be lost unless the project moves ahead quickly.
