Engineers Week, which is the annual campaign to inspire the next generation of engineers, is set to take place in Mayo from Saturday February 24th to Friday March 2nd.
Now in its 12th year, the annual event is co-ordinated on a national basis by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme – funded under Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover Programme Call.
From next Saturday, engineers from all over Ireland will engage with their communities to showcase their profession to primary and secondary school students in their locality.
A number of events will take place in Mayo – JJ Rhatigan will host a site visit by Leaving Cert Construction Studies students from Rice College, Westport to the new Westport Primary Care Centre, while Shell will host a day in the life of their engineers event. Ballina Library will host a robot building workshop, while a number of schools will undertake the Engineers Week schools challenge, while Girl Guides and Brownies in Mayo will get an opportunity to earn engineering badges for the first time.
