
The Dáil and Seanad debates on abortion have resumed this afternoon.
More TDs and Senators will give their opinions on the recommendation of allowing abortion without restriction for up to 12 weeks.
Meanwhile, a Mayo Senator says abortion services would be out-sourced to under-resourced and overstretched GP practices, if the Oireachtas committee’s recommendation on permitting abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy is introduced.
Fianna Fail Senator Keith Swanick, who runs a GP practice in Belmullet, said it’s proposed – in effect – that GPs would prescribed abortion pills that would be taken under their medical supervision.
He told the Seanad that the proposal appears to be outsourcing abortion clinic services to a general practice setting…..
