
Rice College in Westport and the Mercy Secondary School in Tuam are among 40 schools which will start studying Leaving Certificate Computer Science from this September, and will be the first to sit an exam on the subject in 2020.
The Education Minister Richard Bruton has named 40 post-primary schools around the country which will be the first to start studying Leaving Cert Computer Science from this September.
Minister Bruton says extra teachers will be taken on - as computer science is rolled out in secondary schools.
Pupils will be required to create apps and websites - as well as writing computer programmes.
