Mayo's Vinnie Moran progressed to the next stage of the All-Ireland senior singles championship when he defeated Tipperary's Ger Connan in three games a Leixlip last (Friday) night. Moran lost a tight opening game 21 aces to 18 but romped to victoryin the next two for the lost of just eight aces. He now goes into the qualifier draw in which he takes on the losing Munster Senior Singles finalist which  will be either Brendan Flemming or Killian Carroll who meet in the all-Cork Munster Final this Sunday in Limerick. 

 

 

Two provincial juvenile semi-finals took place last night at Ballaghaderreen. Michael Conlon lost to Jarlath Scollan of Leitrim in the Under 16 singles while Martin Mulhern and Matthew Lenehan beat Alan Doonan and Alan Wrynne to reach the provincial Under 16 doubles final next weekend.

The Connacht Men's Senior Doubles Final will take place this Sunday in Ballaghaderreen at 6pm -  when Mayo’s Dessie Keegan & Joe McCann takes on Roscommon’s Riki O’Gara & Damian Martin.

Both pairings have been the dominant duos in Connaught over the last few years, and both cruised into the Final after comfortable SF wins. The big hitting Roscommon men overcame their opponents club mates Vinny Moran & Campbell Brennan, whilst Keegan & McCann defeated Galway’s Martin Mulkerrins & Pat Conway 21-8, 21-13. The seasoned Ballaghaderreen men will enter as favourites for these weekends clash, and remain among the favourites for national glory, but they know they will have to be on top form to beat Martin & O’Gara, who have grown into a formidable partnership capable of big honours.
