The severe flooding which occurred in parts of East Roscommon last week will be discussed today at a meeting between Minister Denis Naughton and Coillte representatives.
A number of homes and farms close to Sliabh Bán mountain near Strokestown were flooded following torrential rain which also caused damage to roads and bridges in the Strokestown, Curraghroe, Tarmonbarry and Scramogue areas in particular.
Earlier this week, Roscommon Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice called for Coillte to suspend construction of a windfarm on Sliabh Bán until an investigation is carried out into the flooding in the area, although Coillte said investigations carried out showed no link between the work on the site and the reported flooding, and said the mountain experienced unprecedented levels of rainfall on Wednesdau of last week.
The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Denis Naughton told Midwest News that he’s meeting with Coillte today to discuss the matter further.
