A Leitrim based author is in the running for a prestigious award for literature.
Philomena Kearney Byrne, who is a psychotherapist in Carrick-on-Shannon, is on the long list for the Sunday Times EPG Private Bank Short Story Award.
Ms Kearney Byrne was chosen for the final 16 from around 500 entries.
She was the winner of the Francis McManus Short Story Award last year for her piece ‘It’s All a Cod’.
Her entry to the Sunday Times Award is called ‘Honda Fifty’, and was inspired by the motorbike which is still iconic in parts of rural Ireland.
The winner of the Short Story Award will be announced at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival in March.
