Residents in the Turlough area of Castlebar are delighted this morning that a local road that had been closed for almost three years to traffic has reopened.
Residents in the area campaigned over the years to have the road re-opened. It was closed because a fault occurred in a bridge that was located along the road that links the Turlough road with the N5.
Castlebar Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne told Midwest News today he has driven over the bridge and is delighted that the works are completed.
He said it’s a good example of the power of local communities coming together and campaigning for essential development in their own area.
