Cong has lost out on being named Ireland’s Premier Foodie Destination 2016.

The award went to Boyne Valley at an event held in Doolin, Co Clare last night.

Cong and Sligo were among 5 finalists shortlisted for the Foodie Destination competition, and representatives from all five attended last night to hear the result.

Boyne Valley was chosen as the winner, after proving to be an excellent leader as a foodie destination.

The organisers said that, from Tapas Trails to Food Safaris to innovative strategies for growth and development, Boyne Valley set the benchmark for food tourism in Ireland.

CEO of the Restaurants Association Adrian Cummins presented the award, while the top five  destinations received a certificate.
