Republic of Ireland international Niamh Fahey has been named captain of Liverpool FC Women.

The 32-year old began her career with Salthill Devon before moving to Galway where she played an integral role in helping the club claim the 2007 FAI Women's Cup.

The Galway native moved to Arsenal in 2008, spending 6 years at the club before spending two sessions with rivals Chelsea.

She says beingĀ  named captain of Liverpool FC Women ahead of the new league season in England is beyond her wildest dreams.
