Former Donegal football manager Jim McGuinness has emerged as a shock contender to take over at Galway United.
McGuinness led Donegal to the 2012 All-Ireland title, and is looking for a manager's job in soccer having completed his Uefa A licence.
He's now believed to be in the frame for a role at Eamon Deacy Park in Galway.
Shane Keegan left Galway United by mutual consent during the mid-season break, after the club failed to mount a serious promotion challenge following relegation last year.
The news comes on the back of a proposed takeover of the Galway club by two Saudi Arabian businessmen.
