The Dail has resumed to elect a Taoiseach - after extensive meetings between political party leaders this morning.

It was to address the impasse which prevented the nomination of Taoiseach taking place yesterday.

The opposition wanted assurances a group of government-supporting independents wouldn't take up opposition speaking time.

Outgoing Chief Whip, Galway's Hildegarde Naughton, says the Dail will reconvene the Reforms Committee to resolve the issue.
