It's a historic day today, as Mayo islanders are set to vote with the mainland.

Close to 100,000 people are eligble to vote in the Mayo electorate, with 220 polling booths in almost 200 polling stations across the county.

Irish voters will get to have their say in two referenda being held today.

Polling got underway from 7 o'clock this morning on the mainland.

While Voting time on Clare Island is 9 am to 8 pm, and 9am to 7.30pm on both Innisbiggle and Inishturk.

 

 

In order to vote you must attend a polling station, provide valid ID and give your full name and address.

A stamped ballot will be provided by polling officials, containing short instructions on how to vote and details of the referendum proposal.
