Leonard Cleary succeeds Brendan McGrath, who retired from the job last year.

He was chosen following a recruitment process conducted by the Public Appointments Service.

Elected representatives ratified his appointment at its monthly meeting.

Mr Cleary has previously worked with Clare County Council, where he most recently oversaw tourism development.
