Following the sentencing of Yousef Palani at the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday afternoon, LGBT Ireland says yesterday’s sentencing is a milestone in what has been a dark chapter for the families, friends and wider community.
23-year-old Yousef Palani, of Markievicz Heights in Sligo, has received two life sentences for the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee.
He also received a separate 20-year sentence for causing serious harm to Anthony Burke.
LGBT Ireland say “the hate crimes committed by Yousef Palani were horrendous and had a devastating impact.
Paula Fagan, CEO of LGBT Ireland says the murders and the attack had a significant impact on the LGBTQI+ community in Sligo, the northwest and across the island.
She says we once again call on the Government and the Oireachtas to pass the Hate Crime Bill and to proactively tackle hate with a national action plan.
Paula Fagan has been giving more details to Midwest Radio’s Michael D. McAndrew.
