
The death has taken place of former musical director of the Mayo Concert Orchestra George Lee.
The 87-year old who was a native of Stoneyford in Kilkenny but lived in Ballinamore, Kiltimagh passed away the Galway Clinic.
He served as musical director of Mayo Concert Orchestra for 21 years before his retirement in 2016. He was also a former musical director of Castlebar Concert Band.
George is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Martha, Deirdre, Vivienne and Barbara.
Paying tribute to him, Declan Hynes, president of Music West, said George had been the cornerstone of the orchestra since its inception in 1995 up to his retirement.
His remains will be reposing at the family home in Ballinamore, Kiltimagh (F12 YH72), from 5.30 until 8 p.m. this evening.
Funeral Mass takes place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday in the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh, with burial afterwards in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh.
