A plan to offer State accommodation on a short term basis to new arrivals from war torn Ukraine is unworkable.

That's according to an organisation protecting the rights of refugees and migrants.

The plan would mean that after a few months, Ukrainians would have to find either a rental property or take up the offer of a home pledged by members of the public.

Doras is calling on the government to look at better planning and resourcing as well as providing local authorities with bigger budgets to deal with the crisis.

Chief executive of the organisation John Lannon says the standard of accommodation for refugees is getting worse.
