Irish parents are paying around 30 million euro a year in 'voluntary contributions' to schools.

Financial returns gathered by the Department of Finance from all primary and post-primary schools, show 28 million euro was received in so-called 'voluntary' payments in the 2020-2021 academic year.

However the Irish Times says the figure is likely to be an underestimate of the funds paid by parents to subsidise schools.
