Cutting Vat on the construction sector could cost the taxpayer 580 million euro.

The Tax Strategy Group also says it would likely result in an increase in house prices.

Ahead of Budget 2024, the group has examined reducing the Vat rate on construction materials from 13 point 5 per cent 9 per cent.

However, they warn these costs could be passed onto the consumer.
