It was a good news day for the Irish as the 75th Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday.

Tubbercurry native Dearbhla Walsh together with Sharon Horgan and Declan Lowney all getting nods.

Dearbhla is the Director of the series Bad Sisters and the series picked up nominations for directing, as well as the nod for Outstanding Casting for a drama series.

Bad Sisters is set in Dublin and filmed on location in Ireland. It's based on the Flemish series Clan and follows the Garvey sisters, four of whom plot to kill their sister Grace's abusive husband.

Sharon Horgan received two nominations – both for the drama series Bad Sisters. The first came in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.

Horgan's other Bad Sisters nomination came in the Writing category.

Meanwhile, Father Ted director Declan Lowney was nominated for taking charge of the hugely successful comedy Ted Lasso.

The annual Emmy Awards ceremony recognises the best in television excellence, and is hosted by the US Television Academy.

Nominations were read out by actor Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy.

The 75th annual Emmy awards will take place on September 18 2023.
