Gardai in Castlebar have recovered the body of a man from a river in the town.

The body was discovered in the water along a section of the Greenway in the vicinity of Springfield in the town. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.

The Coroner for Mayo has been informed.
