Many aspects of the Nature Restoration Law need to be introduced on a voluntary basis, to allow the farmer to have a choice.

That's the view of MEP for this region, Colm Markey.

A public meeting was held in Ballinasloe yesterday to discuss the law and allow the public to voice their concerns.

MEP Markey says one of the biggest concerns is that farmers in particular will not have a choice when it comes to enforcing some of the aspects, rather than allowing the to be introduced on a voluntary basis.

He says many farmers aren't opposing of the law itself, but have a concern about the long term impacts it will have on the agricultural community.
