An extensive search is underway on Achill Island today for a teenager on holidays in the area.

Sebastian Palma Sigmond, aged 18,  is visiting relatives on the island and he was last seen when he left a house in Dooagh, Achill yesterday evening about 5.30pm.

He went out for a walk and has not been seen since. The search for the teenager got underway last night.

He was wearing jeans, a black jacket and a black hat and is described as 5 foot 5 inches in height with brown hair and brown eyes.

Malin Head Coast Guard and Gardaí are among those involved in the operation, along with the Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter R118, Achill RNLI and the Achill Coast Guard unit,  together with local volunteers.
