
The pub that featured in Martin McDonagh's film 'The Banshees of Inisherin' has been relocated, rebuilt and is now open in Kilkerrin, Co Galway.
JJ Devine’s Public House was built on location on Achill Island but was taken apart again as soon as the movie shoot was completed.
However, a Galway publican salvaged the parts and the original structure has been restored to the family-run Mee’s Bar in north Galway.
Co-owner Luke Mee says he heard the set was dismantled and the parts were lying in a yard in Achill for months with nobody showing any interest. All the structural parts were in good condition, so he took them back to the yard at the back of Mee's Bar in Kilkerrin and set about returning the iconic pub to its former glory.
It is already attracting international interest and is set to become a significant tourist attraction, where customers can take photos and enjoy live music sessions.
