A new dog handling unit is set to based in the Sligo Leitrim division.

That's according to Councillor Marie Casserly, who received confirmation of the recent JPC meeting in the county.

The Independent councillor hopes the work of such dogs will help with public order disturbances aswell as drug seizures and searches for missing persons.

She also says this may now be a deterrent factor of drugs entering the county in the first place.
