Crossmolina councillor Michael Loftus has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council.

The Fianna Fail councillor was elected this morning, unopposed, at the AGM of Mayo County Council.

It's his first time to wear the chain for the county.

He has taken over at the helm from Independent Ballina councillor Seamus Weir.

While Castlebar councillor Martin Mcloughlin has been elected as the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the county.

The Fianna Fail councillor was also elected unopposed at today’s AGM.
