
Ten people have lost their lives in road collision on Mayo roads so far this year and that’s double the number of lives lost on our roads last year. That sad statistic leaves Mayo and Galway at the top of the table for road deaths in 2023, to date, with road deaths nationally standing at 78 so far this year.
Gary Smyth is the newly appointed Road Safety Officer with Mayo County Council and as the exodus of Mayo football fans head to Croke Park this weekend, he is urging motorists to take care on the road.
The advice is - check that your car is road worthy, give yourself plenty of time for the journey, never drink/drug drive, and adhere to the speed limits.
