Mayo Parish Heritage Committee will hold an information evening this evening in Mayo Abbey Community Centre, on the upcoming LiDAR survey of the Early Christian Monastic site at Mayo Abbey and surrounding environs.
With funding from the heritage council and using the highest standard of modern technology (LiDAR), the committee aim to map the extent of the once great medieval town of Mayo, later this year.
Mayo Abbey today gives little indication of its proud heritage and its importance as a major centre in the Celtic-Anglo Saxon Christian world in the 7th and 8th century.
The information event takes place this evening at the Mayo Abbey Community Centre from 8pm.
It will also be available to view LIVE on Facebook for members of the Mayo diaspora and anyone interested.
