A new Cathaoirleach has been elected for the West Mayo Municipal District this afternoon.

Belmullet based Fianna Fail Councillor Sean Carey won the voting by 5 votes to 2 against Independent Councillor Johno O’Malley.

Councillor Carey already served as Cathaoirleach during his term in authority.

He was the Cathaoirleach for the 2020/21 period.

A new Leas Cathaoirleach has also been appointed following today’s meeting.

This position will be taken up by the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Councillor Christy Hyland.
