
Motorists are being advised that the new 20km stretch of N5 dual carriageway from Tulough to Wesport has a speed limit of 100km per hour. It is not a motorway where a speed limit of 120km an hour is permitted.
Garda Superintendent Gabriel Moran told a meeting of the county Joint Policing Committee this week, that the new dual carriageway is a great asset to the county, but he said it’s important that drivers on the new road take due caution and adhere to the 100km speed limit.
He is encouraging drivers to familiarise themselves with the new route and to take their time on it.
He says garda checkpoints and speed cameras will be in operation on the new road.
