A consultant has been appointed and begun desk-based work on a tourism destination plan for North Mayo and Erris. That’s according to Minister of State, local deputy Dara Calleary.
The North Mayo Destination Plan which is been prepared by Fáilte Ireland is due to be finalised and published next year.
Minister Calleary says the initiative and focus on the north Mayo and Erris area is to be welcomed and will help progress the superb work that has been undertaken in recent years by Fáilte Irelands Wild Atlantic Way team and the Mayo North and Erris promotion organisations to help promote the area on the tourism map.
There has been considerable investment in visitor attractions in recent years in the region.
The plan, he says, will also have the potential to give focus to capturing the tourism benefits of President Bidens visit.
Minister Calleary concludes "I've previously highlighted the importance of factoring local input into such a plan, and I'm pleased to say that there will be a range of community consultations in the Autumn to ensure communities across the region have their say on the tourism potential of the region. I will continue to work with Fáilte Ireland and local interests to ensure we have a grounded and ambitious plan.''
