Almost 6,500 people are currently on a waiting list to receive home care support.

That's according to Roscommon/Galway TD Denis Naughten.

The regional group of TD's will today table a Dáil motion, to highlight the critical state of home help services across the country.

Deputy Naughten says without intervention from the Government, such services are at serious risk.

It comes as recent study shows Ireland has an aging population, with a million people living here aged over 60.
