Galway based Minister of State for Public Health Hildegarde Naughton will be in Achill tomorrow (Thursday) to launch Slaintecare Healthy Communities Enhancement Project Fit Stick Walking Trails.

The launch will take place at 2.30pm and will be followed by an Activator Walking with Poles Gathering

The meeting point is at the Strand Hotel, Dugort, Achill.

Teas and coffees will be served at 2pm and all are welcome.

Mayo now has five Fit Stick Walking trails that have been developed to encourage walking for people of all ages and of all abilities. They are age-friendly routes that include resting and exercise areas and are generally along reasonably flat surfaces.

Mairead Carney is Slaintecare Healthy Communities Development Officer, while Anna Connor is a Tourism Development Officer at Mayo County Council and they have been telling Midwest News more about the initiative.
