Fine Gael Councillor Gerard Mullaney has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council.

The appointment came following a special sitting of Sligo County Council this morning.

A number of Cathaoirligh and Leads Cathaoirligh are being elected across the county today.

Cathaoirleach Mullaney takes over from the outgoing Michael Clarke, who took up the role last June.

He was first elected as Councillor in 2019.
