The weather warning currently in place for Connacht counties has been upgraded from a Status Yellow to a Status Orange thunderstorm and rain.

The warning for Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Connacht, Longford, Westmeath and Offaly is in place until 10pm tonight.

Met Éireann says that thunderstorms and very heavy showers will produce significant accumulations over short time periods.

There are numerous areas across the region without power as a result.
