Cabinet will consider ideas on how to pay apprentices more, as well as a potential minimum wage for those on apprenticeships.

Higher Education Minister Simon Harris will tell his colleagues research has been commissioned to examine the issue.

It will include talking to employers about issues they face in recruitment.

Minister Harris will also tell Cabinet this year is on course to see the highest number of apprentices recruited, standing at 3,000 to the end of May.
