A woman has died after being struck by a Garda car in County Donegal.

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning.

An investigation is underway following the collision involving a 21 year old pedestrian and a Garda patrol car at Ludden, Buncrana at about 3.15 this morning.

No other injuries were reported.

The woman's body remains at the scene, which as been sealed off a technical examination.

The road remains closed, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information relating to the collision to contact them.

As per protocol, the incident has been referred to the Garda Obmudsman.
