Taxi drivers are better qualified than many Gardai - to drive through some of Dublin's busiest streets.

A report in today's Sunday Independent claims just TWO of 22 detectives based at Dublin's Pearse Street Garda Station have undertaken advanced driver training courses.... which allows them to drive at speed, access bus lanes, and use their lights and sirens.

Garda members raised the issue last week at the GRA annual conference in Westport saying some city detectives are finding it quicker to WALK to crime scenes.

They're appealing for new rules and better access to training - as quickly as possible.
