Last week, we heard from Mayo Fine Gael TD Michael Ring in regards to the wait times being faced by learner drivers who are waiting for a test date.

He says that while over 400 people are working in the offices of the RSA, not enough people have been employed to conduct driving tests.

Midwest News contacted the RSA for a statement on the claim and they have responded.

In their statement they say:

RSA has received sanction to hire up to 75 additional driver testers to address the backlog that has arisen due to unprecedented demand in the driver testing service. It is expected that new testers will be trained and ready to work from October of this year. Where these testers will be based has not been decided.
