Tributes are pouring in for well known GAA man Dr. Micky Loftus.

The Crossmolina native was a member of the Mayo senior football panel which won the All-Ireland final in 1951. He was a sub on the team and did not play on the day.

After his retirement from playing Loftus, who ran a medical practice in north Mayo, served as a referee at club and county level. He refereed the All-Ireland finals in 1965 and 1968.

Minister of State Dara Calleary has paid tribute to Dr. Loftus by saying he was fearless and accomplished on and off the GAA field.

He went on to say that Dr.Loftus was passionate about Mayo, about Crossmolina, about GAA, about health, about people and community and never shirked from his #beliefs.

He has had the privilege of knowing him virtually all his life-he was a dear friend to Minister Calleary's late father and they will once again share their views on sports and politics on that great pitch in the sky.

Minister Calleary concluded by  extending deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his wife Edie and family-especially to our friend and colleague  Councillor Michael Loftus who continues his dads service to community.
