Gardaí have released information regarding the National Slow Down day, which ended at 7:00PM this morning.

Gardaí checked the speed of 140,720 and detected 211 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Among local statistics, a motorists was detected of travelling 84km/h in a 50km/h zone in Knockroghery in Roscommon.

Another was caught travelling at 161km/h in a 120km/h zone in Carn Mor Thiar Orán Mór in Galway.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
