64 motorists nationally have been detected speeding by Gardaí in the first five hours of National Slow Down Day.

A driver in Tyrrellpass in Westmeath was caught driving at 149 kilometres per hour in a 120 zone.

In Dongeal, someone hit 87 in a 60 zone, while another in Wicklow was doing 137 in a 120.

Gardaí are urging motorists to slow down to reduce collisions and save lives.
