The Government is putting together a plan to subsidise builders to cut the cost of construction.

The scheme is aimed at boosting the provision of affordable homes to soften the housing crisis.

Included in the five year plan is a bonus giving builders up to €150,000 for every cost- rental home built.

According to the Irish independent, the package is expected to be announced next week.
