More than 5,300 children were in alternative education in Ireland over the past three years.

 

Data from Tusla details how 1,931 students were registered as being educated outside of a recognised school last year.

 

Home education is provided for in the Constitution and regulated by Tusla, the child and family agency, which oversees a registration system.

 

Catherine Monaghan of Home Education Network says homeschooling is not isolating and does not affect children's social skills.
