There were strong Mayo connections to more than one of the Award winning films last night at the BAFTAS.

"The Banshees of Inisherin", extensively filmed on Achill Island, won Best British Film and saw stars Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan winning Best Supporting Actress and Actor awards at the event in London.

Its British-Irish filmmaker Martin McDonagh also scooped Best Original Screenplay.

While Foxford based, multi award winning cinematographer  - Narayan Van Maele shot the BAFTA winning 'An Irish Goodbye' . The Northern Ireland film won best British short film last night.

Narayan’s proud in –laws -  Marian and Pat McHale in Cashel Foxford, told Midwest News today that there were great celebrations and rejoicing in Foxford when the announcement was made last night.
